Brisbane’s award-winning IndigiScapes is Australia’s first environmental centre for indigenous plants and is a fascinating place to visit.
The 14.5 hectare site is located in Runnymede Road, Capalaba, and features demonstration gardens such as a coastal garden, scribbly gum garden, formal garden, wildlife attracting garden, grey gum garden, waterwise garden, rainforest garden, wetland garden and creek vegetation garden. There’s also more than a kilometre of walking tracks to explore, an information centre, meeting room and dining deck. Three guided tours are available (seasonally) for groups from five to 50. Choose from a four hour guided tour, a bush tucker tour to learn more about indigenous bush tucker or a bird watching tour. Nightly spotlighting tours are available during school holidays and offer the chance to spot possums and other animals in the wild. The IndigiScapes Tea Garden provides an inviting place to take a break. The centre won the ecotourism category of this year’s Redlands on Moreton Bay Tourism Awards and is open Tuesday to Sundays from 10am to 4pm. http://indigiscapes.redland.qld.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx
