While Hervey Bay claims the title of Australia’s whale watching capital, it’s also possible to board a whale watch tour just 30 minutes from the Brisbane CBD.
Brisbane Whale Watching offers tours onboard the multi-million-dollar catamaran 'Eye-Spy' in Brisbane’s Moreton Bay. The luxury purpose-built catamaran features six viewing decks as well as floor to ceiling glass and air-conditioned cabins. The vessel travels at speeds of up to 30 knots to reach the playground of the humpback whales quickly. The tour includes morning and afternoon teas, sumptuous buffet luncheon including fresh tiger prawns, plus live onboard commentary. Tours board from Redcliffe jetty at 9.30am and return between 2.30pm and 3pm. A portion of every ticket price is donated to ongoing whale research. Shuttle bus transfers are available from Brisbane, the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. www.brisbanewhalewatching.com.au
