Dig the Tropic

Join a dinosaur dig, explore ancient limestone caves and fossick for gems along the new ‘Dig the Tropic’ geo-journey which follows the Tropic of Capricorn from the Great Barrier Reef to the Outback.

Dig the Tropic links 15 geological wonders along the Tropic of Capricorn from the Great Barrier Reef and Yeppoon on the Central Queensland coastline, to the small town of Boulia in Outback Queensland. The Australian Age of Dinosaurs, Capricorn Caves and Sapphire Gemfields are just some of the highlights where geo-savvy visitors can learn first-hand about the geological wonders of the region.

The incredible history along the Tropic of Capricorn has seen species irradiated, sceneries transformed, and time buried in layers and folds. What remains today to be discovered with ‘Dig the Tropic’ is a living museum, a country embedded with great mineral wealth, tell-tale fossils and inspiring landscapes. The self-drive route can be explored over six days, however to really discover the secrets of the region you need at least two weeks. www.digthetropic.com.au
