Just 40 minutes from Townsville, the Hervey’s Range Heritage Tea Rooms are located in the oldest building in north Queensland.
Built in 1865, the split log inn was once a hotel and overnight stop for Cobb & Co horse-drawn coaches en route to the goldfields. Owners Allan and Michelle Sharpe have reopened the building as a heritage tea rooms so guests can once again enjoy north Queensland hospitality, and the cooler temperatures of Hervey’s Range which is 1000 feet above sea level. The tea rooms now serve up delicious food, all cooked on the premises, along with the world-famous Kopi Lukaw (cat poo) coffee. The rarest and most expensive coffee in the world, it is produced when Luwak coffee beans have been eaten by, and then passed through the digestive tract of the Asian Pak Civet, a cat-like animal that lives in the Indonesian jungles. If you’re interested in Australian Outback heritage, don’t miss the chance to discover this special gem. The Hervey’s Range Heritage Tea Rooms are open daily from 9.30am to 5pm. www.heritagetearooms.com.au
